Today we left Cape Crawford (don't know where the Cape part comes from, no water, just mines!)
We drove 267k to Daly Waters, again the only thing here is The Pub and it's a real tourist attraction. There are a number of notoriety points, people leave something as an indication that they were here. Thongs, seem to have started it and now there is everything imaginable
Live entertainment every night
This was Happy Hour & most people had booked in for dinner as well, its famous for it "Beef & Barramundi" $32 a head. A lot of people come through here just for this. We had just had our night out a couple of days ago, so not tonight.
No TV in the van but the Pub had Richmond & North Melbourne showing. Brian had to give up in disgust!!!! OK Jamie, stop gloating!
We went to see the WW11 Airfield, but there is nothing left except a hanger that Qantas used until a few years ago
The runway
John McDougall Stuart named this place on his 3rd attempt to cross Australia from south to north in 1861. They traveled on foot doing 1 kilometres a day through difficult lancewood scrub and harsh terrain. I just can't imagine it. It would have been so hard. Most of the land we have driven through over the last 3 days has been like this except we have a paved road through it all, otherwise I don't think it has changed.

Typical... just like I remember as a kid.
ReplyDeleteJo and I stuck in the car whilst the parents were at the pub.
