2nd June. Cape Crawford. Heartbreak Hotel

Heat & Humidity, yuck.
Let me fill in the last few days.
Monday 30th we just enjoyed our Billabong
With its final sunset
Tuesday  31st  we set it and 'stepped back in tome', well we had to turn our clocks back 1/2 hour because we are now in The Northern Territory
Please don't get too excited about the scenery
One lane sealed roads with good shoulders because it is necessary for passing. Th scrub along the way varied very little, sometimes the bushes were higher than at at her parts. The road signs are interesting, a picture of a cow and a car colliding, markers to shoe the depth of flooding....... flooding in this dry barran land looks so silly, BUT we know in the summer "The Wet" it becomes a Great Lake or raging torrent. It's amazing how it all disappeared. It fills the underground water supplies.
We called in for fuel at Barkley Homestead it was $1.65lt (help) when there is no more for 375k you don't take risks!
We stopped for the night @ Burnett Downs Rest area which is just a parking area on the side of the road. There were 3 vans there and we had a very nice time with a couple who were travelling the opposite way, they were from Perth. There was nothing there except a windmill and a tank (with nothing in it!)
Wednesday 1st June, on the road again, this is the GPS
YES straight North, to Little River free camp beside a creek....... In the picture it looked lovely, but in reality there was enough space for about 4 vans, very little water in the creek and not at all inviting so, about turn and back 10k to Cape Crawford, Heartbreak Hotel Caravan park. It's lovely, only $28 for powered sight.
We booked for 2 nights.
We went to the hotel for dinner. I had Barramundi and had to bring half of it home for another meal, it was SO BIG. Brian had Surf & Turf & I was amazed that it disappeared!! The Hotel, by the way is only thing there is here, it's the fuel stop (only $1.79), the Motel, Hotel, Caravan Park, Miners huts accommodation. (Next photo)
It was early to bed, no TV, no internet, no telephone!!!! We are really 'Outback'.
Today we were up early and on the road for a days sightseeing, the road was the same as yesterday but it brought to mind the first people who would have walked or ridden on horseback through this area. There would net have been animal tracks to follow, it's very had to imagine it all. It was kilometre after kilometre of the same.
Some more dense and very little open land. Brahman cattle seem to the only thing, we saw no houses or homesteads but guess there must be someone out there. There are some mines, Zinc, Lead and Silver, they are out of bounds so no sightseeing there.
We went to the only town, 130k Borroloola, it is an Aboriginal Town, ver nice School
A well stocked general store, I got bananas $3.45k (in the city $1.20), a cucumber & 4 tomatoes. Brian fueled up $1.35lt & the car was thirsty, it's the first time it took over $100.00.
We drove on a further 35 k to see the ocean at The Gulf of Carpenteria, a place called Bing Bong. Got there only to find, it was a port for the mines and no admittance at all. Called in also at Batton Point, we had thought that we may take the van there and stay for a few days. Today's experience showed that we made the right choice by a day trip only,
The water was ver blue, and yes there were crocodile in the area.  Not a place for us. At least was saw water.
the GOS couldn't find us?!?! Lost in the wilderness!
Couldn't find a place for lunch, so just pulled off the road.
That's where we stood & ate our lunch, great no flies!
Along the road there were millions of Termite hills.
Tomorrow we are off to Daly Waters.
Today has been not been humid a we have had such an enjoyable day. A wonderful experience. Thank you Lord who created this amazing land.
