8th June. Katherine Northern Territory

Wow, what a day. It's 9.30pm & I'm still on a 'high'.
We set of the 30k to Nitmiluk Information Centre in the Katherine Gorge Nation Park. Brian was looking at a cruise, but we passed two 2 helicopter flight sights and that planted the seed in his mind. We looked at cruises but because the water is so low there is quite a bit of walking between gorges, so....how about a helicopter flight. I got so excited. We were booked for  11.50 flight (only 10 min flight) We watched the flight before us come in to land. Naturally I couldn't film our own landing so did theirs.
The 3 ladies on the flight were with the one that was waiting for them. The 4 were from Melbourne, 2 had 'met' in the hospital nursery! & they all went to the same primary & high school, they went to Eutipe together for their 21st Birthday and are now celebrating their 50th. Wow, what a wonderful friendship. The one who was talking to us said she was spending the kids inheritance, leaving them the house.......with its 4 mortgages! (Well said).

Now it's our turn, Brian and a man from Tasmania sat in the back ( they were equal weight!) and I had the front seat with Matthew, the pilot. He was in IT for 20 years then learnt to fly and took on this job. He said he never has to work again because this is just pure pleasure. Enjoying himself while making people thrilled. He gave us 5 Gorges instead of 2 and a way over time. It was so thrilling.
The water is so low, but in the wet season, summer, the area is covered in water. It's impossible to imagine.
The last photo is looking down on the Information centre.
A perfect flight, no wind or air pockets, no door beside me, but I was wearing a child type seat belt and even when we turned or dipped it was just a magical sensation.
This afternoon we have had to change our route because our car needs its 20,000k check, so Friday we are going to Litchfield National Park for 3 days then Darwin for 5 days where the car is booked in on 16th.
We went to the Katherine Club for dinner tonight and it was well attended, great food & abundance of it.
It's 10pm and I think the Park is already asleep, so we must also.
